"The health status has been deteriorating and has not improved in the past 60 years. In this specific period when the country is experiencing numerous reforms, there is a need of policy reforms in health sector at national level". This was concluded in the opening session of the 3rd Annual Public Health Conference organised by the Health Services Academy, Islamabad. The session was presided over by Additional Secretary, Cabinet Division, Syed Arshad Ali.

Dr Huma Qureshi, Executive Director, HSA, welcomed the participants and elaborated the expected outcome of the Conference. She also shared the achievements of the 2nd Public Health Conference, 2011. She hoped that 2012 Conference, which is an annual feature of HSA would keep on providing a platform for sharing knowledge and developing synergies to address the impending health issues in the world and especially in Pakistan. The Conference brought together over 500 eminent public health experts from Pakistan and across the world. The two-day Conference would have seventeen sessions on a wide-range of public health issues facing Pakistan. Researchers and experts will share experiences and propose policy interventions to the impending issues of public health. Moreover, new scientific knowledge will be shared and opportunities will be offered for a structured dialogue on social determinants of health.-PR
